Our Rector:  The Rev. Dr. Linda V. Hutton,  "Pastor Lin "

The Rev. Dr. Lin Hutton was installed as the 30th Rector of historic St. Thomas Parish Episcopal Church in January of 2008.  Lin came to us from St. Anne’s Church in Warsaw, Indiana where she served as the Priest-in-Charge.  Pastor Lin served for 27 years in the United States Navy as a naval aviator.

She completed the Naval Officer Candidate program in Newport, RI and earned her Naval Aviator wings in March 1976, making her the seventh woman naval aviator.  Lin was assigned to a variety of aviation squadrons flying the P-3 “Orion,” the C-1A “Trader,” and C-2A “Greyhound” aircraft.  In 1992, she became the first woman aviator to command a carrier aviation squadron and in 1995, at the Naval Air Station Key West, Florida, Captain Hutton became the first woman to command a Naval Air Station. 

During her naval career, she accumulated nearly 400 day and night carrier landings and over 4,500 flight hours.  During her military career, Captain Hutton was awarded two Legion of Merits, three Meritorious Service Medals, and a Joint Service Commendation Medal.  She was recognized as the 1996 Florida State University “Grad Made Good,” the Monroe County (Florida) 1997 “Citizen of the Year,” and named the Florida State University, College of Education Distinguished Alumni for 2005.

She holds a B.S. Degree from Florida State University and an M.A. in Government/National Security Studies from Georgetown University; and a Masters of Divinity, M.Div., with honors, and her Doctorate from the School of Theology at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.

In addition to regular Sunday services, pastoral care, and Christian formation classes, Pastor Lin has also served as head of the Budget Committee on the Executive Board of the Diocese of Virginia and President of the Standing Committee of the Diocese of Virginia.
