Christian Education

Christian Education is of Paramount importance for all ages at St. Thomas Church.

As we strive to grow into our discipleship with Jesus Christ, we constantly seek out opportunities to "Read, Mark, and Inwardly Digest" the Good News of Jesus Christ.

The following educational opportunities are offered on a regular basis at various times of the year.

"Children's Sunday School" is multi-age for ages 4-11, on Sundays upstairs from 10:15 a.m. for about 30+ minutes (children return to the main service for Holy Communion)

"Sunday Forum" is multi-generational for ages 12 through 90's and starts at 9 a.m. on Sundays in the Robertson Parish Hall. This program lasts for about one hour and covers a variety of topics and programs led by our Rector or other Lay Leaders.  For example, topics have included: "The meaning of Justice in the Old & New Testaments," "Food in the Bible," "The History of English Biblical Translations," "A Study of the Revelation to John," "The History of the Church," and, generally at least once a year, a Catechumenate Class that explores what the Episcopal Church believes about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, Salvation, the history and development of The Church, Holy Hardware, and Church Architecture.

"Evening Bible Study" is usually held on Monday Nights from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Robertson Parish Hall.  We generally conduct an 8-week program in the Fall and another in the Spring.  Topics have included: a full year's study of the Biblical Story from Genesis to the Revelation, in-depth reviews of each of the Gospels, Stydying the Beatitudes, an overview of the Islamic and Buddhist faiths, and a Christian's look at how to respond evangelically to Muslims.

"Beth Moore Studies" these programs are held once a week, occasionally throughout the year during the mid-morning in The Youth Room.  Contact the Parish Office to see when one is being held.

"Lenten Program" is a multi-generational program that is held on the 6 Wednesday nights during the Season of Lent. [Ash Wednesday up to Holy Week].  Following a brief service of Evening Prayer at 5:30 p.m. and a Pot Luck Supper at 6:00 p.m. we have a program of about one hour.  Programs have included: "The Theology of Harry Potter," Meditations on Hayden's "Seven Last Words," "The Biblical accuracy behind the movie: Jesus Christ Super Star," "Exploring the Personal Prayer Disciplines: Lection Divina, Centering Prayer, Breath Prayer, and the Anglican Rosary," etc.
