Eckhart Ensemble has finally Returned after a COVID absence!

St. Thomas Church gratefully offers a concert by the Eckhart Ensemble, a mixture of strings and oboe on Sunday June 11 at 2pm in the Church.

The Eckhart Ensemble traditionally present the music of a variety of classical composers like: J.S. Bach, W. A. Mozart, Schubert, Beethoven, and Brahms, as well as an interesting assortment of Renaissance dances and whimsies.

The program is Free and Open to the Public.

Past years have included, internationally acclaimed flutist Nicolas Duchamp featured during Bach's Second Orchestral Suite. This year's program will feature renowned pianist Meng-Chieh Liu (recipient of the the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant); James Wilson, a former Cellist of the Shangai Quartet; amd Gustav Highsteinm obiest and director of the Eckhart Ensemble.

The Eckhart Ensemble traditionally features major works by Johann Sebastian Bach, the ‘Brandenburg’ Concerto No. 1, Bach’s ‘Little G minor Fugue’, and the E Major Violin Concerto. The guest violinist has included, Karen Johnson, a regular performer in the Washington DC area, performing as a soloist with local orchestras and chamber groups in venues such as the White House, State Department, and the residence of the Vice President.

The concert usually includes musical seletions by a variety of composers like: Handel and Bach. We are fortunate to frequently host: Nicolas Duchamp and Jennifer Lawson as flute soloists with the ensemble, playing such pieces as: Bach's Fourth Brandenburg Concerto.
