Ash Wed. Imposition of Ashes

Ash Wednesday begins the Season of Lent on February 17th.

Due to COVID restrictions, the Diocese of Virginia has restricted all Ash Wednesday Services.
We will create a program that individuals and families may follow to mark this most solemn day of discipline and self-denial. If you have your blessed palms from previous years or would like to pick up ashes from the Church Office ahead of time, please call for an appointment.
Ash Wednesday is NOT a "sacrament," no priest is required. There is no magic about ashes - anyone can make their own ashes or use ashes from a fireplace, a firepit, even a burnt piece of paper will work.
From our Guidelines: "Gather ashes and place them in a small dish or bowl. Ashes may be from your own fireplace or fire pit, or from the burning of leaves. If you have palm branches or palm crosses from previous years, these are particularly appropriate to burn. Very little ash is needed. "

Traditionally our Ash Wednesday service begins with a solemn service of Holy Communion and the Imposition of Ashes and is followed by a simple Soup Supper in the Robertson Parish Hall, sadly this will not happen this year.
